Alex Rodriguez Homers on 40th Birthday in N.Y. Yankees’ Victory

Alex Rodriguez homered to celebrate his 40th birthday, hitting his 678th career home run as the New York Yankees won 6-2 at the Texas Rangers on Monday night.

Rodriguez’s 24th homer of the season was a solo shot in the sixth inning. It came two days after he hit three home runs in a game at Minnesota.

Rodriguez, who missed the entire 2014 season while serving a drug suspension, is fourth on Major League Baseball’s career list for home runs.

The Yankees won for the seventh time in eight games and built their lead atop the American League East to seven games over the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles, their biggest division lead since 2012.
