G-7 Threatens Russia With Tougher Sanctions Over UkrainePatrick Donahue and Arne Delfs
Leaders of the Group of Seven agreed that they are “ready to intensify sanctions” on Russia for its role in the Ukraine conflict “if the situation will require it,” German Chancellor Angela Merkel said.
“We unanimously condemn the annexation of Crimea, which violates international law,” Merkel told a news conference after hosting a two-day G-7 summit in Bavaria. “We say that the conflict in southeastern Ukraine can only be solved politically and on the basis of the Minsk accords. We agree that the lifting of sanctions depends on the implementation of Minsk.”
