No Merger Ban, FCC Said to Tell Time Warner Cable, Charter

Updated on

U.S. Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler called the heads of Time Warner Cable Inc. and Charter Communications Inc. to dispel notions that industry mergers won’t be approved by regulators, a person with knowledge of the calls said.

Wheeler, whose agency helped kill Comcast Corp.’s bid for Time Warner Cable last month over concern the deal would harm broadband competition, was reacting to comments from cable executives about the regulatory climate, said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because the conversations weren’t public.
