Lindsey Vonn Wins Seventh World Cup Downhill Title

Lindsey Vonn won her seventh World Cup downhill title with a victory in the final race of the season.

The 30-year-old American finished the course in Meribel, France, in one minute, 29.87 seconds, 0.24 seconds ahead of Elisabeth Goergl. Another Austrian, Nicole Hosp, was 0.3 seconds behind.

Vonn returned this season after twice having surgery on her right leg, which forced her to miss the 2014 Winter Olympics. She won the downhill title six times in a row starting in 2007. In January, she became the most successful female ski racer of all time with her 63rd World Cup win in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.

“After being out for two years and having two operations, I’m so proud and happy to win this title,” Vonn said in a televised interview. “I want to thank everyone who supported me and got me back.”
