Premiership Rugby Signs Six-Season TV Deal With BT Sport

Premiership Rugby and U.K. broadcaster BT Sport have signed a six-year television deal, the longest ever in the league.

BT will show Aviva Premiership Rugby matches until at least 2020-21, both parties said in an e-mailed statement today.

Live TV audiences have grown by 50 percent in the past 18 months, Premiership Rugby Chief Executive Officer Mark McCafferty said.

“We are enjoying a golden era for rugby in this country with the Rugby World Cup just around the corner and the game’s re-entry in the Olympics in the summer of 2016,” he said. “This announcement is another indication of the current strength of English rugby.”

The World Cup, hosted by England, starts in September.
