Shooting Death of Two Guatemalan Journalists Draws Condemnation

Foreign governments and human rights groups condemned Tuesday’s assassination of two Guatemalan journalists and urged officials to improve protection for reporters in one of the world’s deadliest nations.

Danilo Lopez, a reporter from local newspaper Prensa Libre, and radio broadcaster Federico Salazar from Radio Nuevo Mundo were shot dead by assailants on a motorcycle in a park in Mazatenango, a town 90 miles west of Guatemala City. A third journalist was injured in the attack.
