Taliban Set to Gain in Afghanistan, U.S. Intelligence Chief Says

The Taliban is set to gain control of more territory in Afghanistan this year as the Obama administration withdraws forces after more than 13 years of war, according to the U.S.’s top intelligence official.

The Afghan National Security Forces will need more foreign help this year to withstand “an increasingly aggressive” Taliban insurgency, James Clapper, the director of national intelligence, said in a report on global threats. It was obtained by Bloomberg News in advance of his testimony Thursday before the Senate Armed Services Committee.
