Islanders Sign Top-Scoring Defenseman Leddy to Seven-Year Deal

The New York Islanders signed Nick Leddy, the team’s top-scoring defenseman, to a seven-year contract extension.

Financial terms weren’t disclosed in a statement from the National Hockey League team. Newsday reported the agreement, which runs through the 2021-22 season, to be worth $38.5 million.

The 23-year-old Minnesota native has 25 points (eight goals, 17 assists) in 61 games with the Islanders this season. He leads all Islanders defensemen in goals, ranks second in points and hasn’t missed a game this season.

The Islanders are in first place, two points ahead of the New York Rangers in the Metropolitan Division.
