Greylock Hires JPMorgan Asset Management’s Prin to Lead ResearchKatia Porzecanski and Boris Korby
Greylock Capital Management hired money manager Jonathan Prin from JPMorgan Asset Management to lead the hedge fund’s research team.
Prin, 34, started Friday as a managing director at Greylock’s New York office, according to Ajata Mediratta, co-president of Greylock, which oversees about $850 million. Previously, Prin worked as an emerging-market high-yield corporate-bond analyst who helped oversee some of JPMorgan’s portfolios. He declined to comment on his hiring.
“The size of the EM corporate universe has literally exploded over the past five years and, with the cycle turning, it is getting very interesting for our strategy,” Mediratta said in an e-mailed response to questions. “We are committing more resources to corporates, and Jon’s background in both U.S. high-yield and global EM was very attractive for us.”
Mediratta said Prin will oversee a team of seven research analysts focusing on emerging-market companies and will report directly to the firm’s investment committee, which includes Mediratta, Chief Executive Officer Hans Humes and Co-Chief Investment Officer Diego Ferro.
Prin has worked at JPMorgan Asset Management since 2008, when the company acquired Bear Stearns Cos., where he worked for three years as a high-yield analyst in the asset-management unit. Before that, he was at Credit Suisse Group AG.
Greylock, which has helped negotiate restructurings from Belize to Greece, specializes in event-driven and distressed situations.
