Colombia Coal Railway Takes Legal Action as Ban Threatens Output

Colombia’s main coal railway is taking legal action to alter a ban on nighttime transportation that threatens to squeeze exports to European power producers including Electricite de France SA and Germany’s EON SE.

Railway operator Ferrocarriles del Norte de Colombia SA, or Fenoco, is asking the Constitutional Court to revise a Feb. 13 ban on transportation between 10:30 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. following noise complaints from locals, said Mines and Energy Minister Tomas Gonzalez. The ministry has also sent a request to the court.
