Leaders of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s coalition called the Greek government’s defiant stance unhelpful after Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras stood by his pledge to scrap austerity.
“We find it regrettable that, after the first signs of de-escalation between the Greek government and European member states, the tone hardened again yesterday,” Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel said Monday. “We don’t believe that mutual bashing and ideological debates are helpful.”
