Binge Eating Added to List of Uses for Shire Drug by FDA

Shire Plc’s attention deficit hyperactivity drug, Vyvanse, can be used to treat binge-eating disorder in adults, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Friday.

Vyvanse is Shire’s top drug, generating $1.23 billion in 2013. It’s the first medicine approved in the U.S. to treat binge-eating disorder, in which patients eat when they aren’t hungry, to the point of being uncomfortably full, the FDA said in a statement.
