Macau to Push for Complete Ban on Smoking at Casinos: TDM

Macau’s government will push for a complete ban on smoking in casinos, Teledifusao de Macau cited the city’s secretary for social affairs and culture as saying.

The government is looking to push forward a full smoking ban on all areas at casinos and will submit a bill to lawmakers in the first half of this year, Alexis Tam was cited as saying in the television report.

Macau casinos currently have partial smoking restrictions, while allowing gamblers in private high-rolling betting rooms to light up. A complete ban may put further pressure on Macau casino operators already facing declining revenues as an anti-corruption clampdown in China deters high-rollers.

Chinese President Xi Jinping’s anti-corruption campaign has contributed to seven straight months of revenue declines for the former Portuguese enclave’s casino industry.
