TracFone to Pay $40 Million to Settle FTC ‘Throttling’ Suit

TracFone Wireless agreed to pay $40 million to settle U.S. regulators’ claims that it failed to tell customers it was reducing data-transmission speeds, a practice known as “data throttling.”

The settlement with the Federal Trade Commission must be approved by a judge, according to a filing Wednesday in San Francisco federal court.
