JPMorgan Hires Santander Economist Souza for Emerging Markets

JPMorgan Chase & Co. hired Cristiano Souza, previously an economist at Banco Santander Brasil SA, to join its emerging-markets research team in Brazil.

Souza, 40, will be based in Sao Paulo and report to Cassiana Fernandez, who was named chief economist for Brazil in September, according to an internal memo obtained by Bloomberg. Veronica Navarro Espinosa, a JPMorgan spokeswoman, confirmed the contents of the memo.

Souza has covered Brazil for 13 years at banks including Santander Brasil, where he worked for six years, according to the memo.

In September, JPMorgan named Fabio Akira, previously chief economist for Brazil, to head public-sector coverage. Akira is also based in Sao Paulo.

The company ranked ninth in 2014 for investment-banking fees in Brazil, according to Dealogic, a London-based research firm.

Before it's here, it's on the Bloomberg Terminal.
