Back in the 1830s, around when Isabella II became Queen of Spain and Martin Van Buren succeeded Andrew Jackson as U.S. president, someone in eastern Canada fashioned a piece of sugar maple into a hockey stick to play an early form of Canada’s game on Pottle Lake.
