Hungary Must Make Russian Policy Reversal Clear, Nemeth Tells HV

Hungary should make it more clear that it’s distancing itself from Russia and aligning itself with Germany and an “independent and sovereign Ukraine,” according to a senior member of Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s political party.

Hungary is still considered by its partners in the European Union as one of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “closest allies,” whereas the country’s interest dictates that it be an ally of Ukraine, where 200,000 ethnic Hungarians live, Zsolt Nemeth, chairman of Parliament’s Foreign Policy Committee, said today in an interview with the Heti Valasz newspaper.
