Mauritius Seen Favoring Ex-Central Bank Head to Reoccupy Post

A former central bank governor and an ex-chairman of the stock exchange commission have emerged as possible frontrunners to replace Bank of Mauritius Governor Rundheersing Bheenick, who was fired last week.

The government of Prime Minister Anerood Jugnauth may choose between former Governor Ramesh Basant Roi, economist and ex-Chairman of the Stock Exchange Commission Kee Chong Li Kwong Wing and University of Mauritius finance professor Chandan Jankee, according to Sudesh Lallchand, an independent Mauritian economist. First Deputy Governor Yandraduth Googoolye will take over leadership of the bank in the interim, Lallchand said today in an interview in the capital, Port Louis.
