U.K. Stocks Little Changed as Barclays Gain Offsets Shell

U.K. stocks were little changed as gains in Barclays Plc and British American Tobacco Plc offset a decline in oil stocks.

Barclays added 2.4 percent after Goldman Sachs Group Inc. recommended investors buy shares of the bank. BAT climbed 1.1 percent and AstraZeneca Plc added 1.3 percent. Royal Dutch Shell Plc retreated 3.7 percent as the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries left its oil-output target unchanged at today’s meeting.

The FTSE 100 Index slipped 5.75 points, or 0.1 percent, to 6,723.42 at the close of trading in London. Shares gained as much as 0.3 percent earlier as data showed German unemployment dropped in November more than forecast. The broader FTSE All-Share Index rose less than 0.1 percent today, while Ireland’s ISEQ Index gained 1.3 percent. U.S. markets are closed for the Thanksgiving holiday.
