Explosion in London Hotel Injures 11 People, Gas Leak Suspected

An explosion at a hotel in London yesterday injured 11 people, the London Fire Brigade said.

Five were taken to hospital, and about 400 people were evacuated from the hotel, following the explosion at Berkeley Mews in London’s Marylebone area last night, according to a statement on the fire brigade’s website. It damaged the basement and ground floor, and five cars in a neighboring street. The brigade said it is investigating the cause of the explosion, suspected to be a gas leak.

The explosion was at the Hyatt Regency London - The Churchill, the British Broadcasting Corp. reported earlier.
