Malaysian Diplomat Pleads Not Guilty in N.Z.: Radio New Zealand

A former Malaysian diplomat accused of attacking a New Zealand woman has pleaded not guilty to the charges and elected trial by jury, Radio New Zealand reported.

Muhammad Rizalman made a brief appearance before a registrar at the Wellington District Court today on charges of assault with intent to commit sexual violation and burglary, RNZ said. He elected trial by jury and will reappear in court in February, though his trial may not take place until later next year, the state-owned broadcaster reported.

He was returned to New Zealand last month after extradition proceedings were filed in Malaysia, RNZ said.
