Cardinals Get All-Star Outfielder Heyward From Braves for Miller

The St. Louis Cardinals acquired All-Star outfielder Jason Heyward in a four-player trade with the Atlanta Braves.

The Cardinals sent pitchers Shelby Miller and Tyrell Jenkins to Atlanta in return for Heyward and pitcher Jordan Walden, the Major League Baseball teams announced today on their Twitter accounts.

A first-round draft pick by Atlanta in 2007, Heyward has hit .262 with 84 home runs over his first five MLB seasons. The 25-year-old has won two Gold Glove awards as one of the three best defensive outfielders in the National League.

Miller, 24, was a first-round pick by the Cardinals in 2009. He was 10-9 with a 3.74 earned-run average this year, his second full MLB season.

Walden, 27, led the Los Angeles Angels with 32 saves in 2011. Jenkins, 22, is a minor-league prospect.
