Mas’s Allies Want Catalonia to Seize Control of Taxes

Updated on

Esquerra Republicana, the pro-secession party leading the polls in Catalonia, wants Regional President Artur Mas to sign up to a road map to independence that would include seizing control of tax collection as soon as next year.

The proposal also includes creating a foreign affairs service and a Catalan social security system, Alfred Bosch, an Esquerra lawmaker in the national parliament, said in an interview today in Madrid. Esquerra’s leader Oriol Junqueras met Mas today to discuss their next steps after the illegal independence vote held on Nov. 9.
