Southwest Best in S&P 500 With U.S. Seats Full: Riskless Return

Updated on

Southwest Airlines Co., once a laggard as rivals expanded overseas, is now poised for the best stock return in the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index as it reaps the biggest haul of U.S. passengers.

With a schedule dominated by domestic flights, Southwest is cushioned from Europe and Japan’s stagnation. The stock has doubled in 2014 while keeping volatility well below peers, making Southwest the top risk-adjusted performer in the S&P 500, according to the BLOOMBERG RISKLESS RETURN RANKING.
