Indiana Supreme Court Upholds State’s Right-to-Work Law

Updated on

An Indiana law barring union fees as a condition of employment is constitutional, the state’s highest court ruled in a blow to organized labor.

The state’s right-to-work measure, enacted by former Governor Mitch Daniels in 2012, made it a misdemeanor to require a worker to pay fees or other charges to a union to get or keep a job. Yesterday’s ruling reverses a lower court decision in a case brought by the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150.
