Gamesa Wins 172 Megawatts of Wind-Turbine Orders in India

Gamesa Corp. Tecnologica SA, Spain’s biggest wind-turbine maker, has won orders from five Indian wind farms to supply 172 megawatts of machines.

The 86 turbines, to be made in India, will be delivered to projects in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Maharashtra states next year, the company said in an e-mailed statement. It didn’t disclose the buyers or value of the deals.

India’s wind market is recovering from a downturn after the government restored a tax benefit in July. Installations could rise to a three-year high of 2,600 megawatts in 2014, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance.

So far this year, Gamesa has signed 500 megawatts of orders, according to the statement. It installed 396 megawatts in the financial year ended March, according to data from the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers’ Association.
