OMV Petrom, Exxon Start Drilling New Well in Romanian Black Sea

OMV Petrom SA and Exxon Mobil Corp. started drilling a new exploration well in the Romanian section of the Black Sea to search for resources that may help the country gain energy independence by 2020.

Petrom, Romania’s biggest oil company, said the Ocean Endeavour rig is drilling the Pelican South-1 well about 155 kilometers offshore. Data from previous drilling of other wells in the Neptun block are “being evaluated,” the company said in an e-mailed statement today.
