Hazardous Smog Levels in Beijing Prompt Health Warning

Pollution will remain at hazardous levels in China’s capital until a cold front is forecast to arrive on Oct. 26, according to Beijing authorities.

The concentration of PM2.5 fine particulates that pose the greatest risk to human health was 356 micrograms per cubic meter at 5 p.m. near Tiananmen Square, the Beijing Municipal Environmental Monitoring Center said on its website. The World Health Organization recommends 24-hour exposure at concentrations no higher than 25.
