A 23-year-old man was arrested by the U.S. Secret Service after jumping over the White House fence today as authorities were on heightened alert after shootings at Canada’s Parliament.

Uniformed Secret Service officers used dogs to subdue the man before he could reach the executive mansion, said Ed Donovan, a spokesman for the agency. A similar episode a month ago, in which a man vaulted the fence and entered the White House, helped lead to the resignation of Secret Service Director Julia Pierson.
