Beijing’s Marathon Held in ‘Post-Apocalyptic’ Smog

Signing up for the annual Beijing International Marathon is always a bit like playing Russian roulette: When registration opens each July, it’s still far too early to know whether the morning of the race in mid-October will fall on a crisp and clear late autumn day, or whether it will be marred by toxic smog.
