Rice Abuse Incident Is ‘Terrible Message’ for Youth, Duncan Says

The Ray Rice domestic abuse incident and its handling by the National Football League sends a “terrible message” to young people who look up to players as role models, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan said.

“These folks are so interested in making money, they’ve lost a sense of values, they’ve lost a sense of what’s important,” Duncan said in an interview with Jane Williams of Bloomberg Radio’s “Bloomberg EDU” program. “For so many young people looking up to these teams, looking up to these players, what a terrible message it sends.”
