Glennmont Starts Straw-Fired Power Plant in Northern England

Glennmont Partners, a London-based renewable energy fund manager, said it’s started a straw-fired biomass plant in northern England.

The 38-megawatt facility in Sleaford will generate enough electricity for 65,000 homes and provide free heat to local sports clubs and community facilities, Glennmont said today in an e-mailed statement. The company bought the project in 2011 and financed its construction through debt from NIBC Bank NV, Unicredit Bank AG, Royal Bank of Scotland Plc and Siemens Bank GmbH, it said.

“Glennmont has committed itself to leading the way for institutional investors to realize exceptional value from the renewable energy market, and Sleaford is an excellent example of this,” Joost Bergsma, managing partner of Glennmont, said in the statement.
