Cheapest Olympics Tickets Priced at $17 by Rio 2016 Organizers

Organizers of the 2016 Olympic Games said they will cater to residents of host city Rio de Janeiro by pricing about half the 7.5 million tickets at 70 reais ($30) or less.

Entries for the preliminary rounds of sports including weightlifting, Greco-Roman wrestling, rowing, hockey and modern pentathlon are the cheapest at 40 reais, about $17, according to a price list sent to media late yesterday.

The most expensive seats will be priced at 4,600 reais for the opening ceremony, and as much as 1,200 reais for the best spots at track and field events.

A poll as Brazil hosted this year’s soccer World Cup found spectators were mostly well-off.

Ninety percent of fans at Brazil’s round-of-16 game against Chile classified themselves as coming from the top two economic classes, according to the survey by Datafolha.

The Rio Olympics tickets will go on sale for Brazilian residents from March 2015 and for non-residents from December 2015, organizers said.
