Alphatec to Invest $25.7 Million in Wind Tower Plant in Brazil

Alphatech SA, a Brazilian equipment manufacturer, is building a tower plant in the country’s northeastern state of Pernambuco to supply wind turbine makers, said the company’s commercial director Marcio de Matos.

The Rio de Janeiro-based company will invest 60 million reais ($25.7 million) to produce as many as 300 towers a year starting in 2016, he said. This is its first plant.

“We want to supply first to the local market, then, in the future, we want to export to the South American countries,” de Matos said.

Alphatec is negotiating with the Banco do Nordeste do Brasil SA bank to finance 60 percent of the investment, according to de Matos.
