Wozniacki Reaches U.S. Open Final as Peng Retires in Second Set

Caroline Wozniacki reached her second U.S. Open final when Peng Shuai retired in the second set today in a women’s semifinal at the U.S. Open.

Wozniacki, the 10th seed from Denmark and a former world No. 1, was leading 7-6 (7-1), 4-3 when Peng, an unseeded player from China, could not continue because of cramps and was taken off the court in a wheelchair.

In the Sept. 7 final, Wozniacki will face either five-time champion and top-seeded Serena Williams of the U.S. or No. 17 Ekaterina Makarova of Russia.

Wozniacki lost in the 2009 U.S. Open final to Kim Clijsters.
