Five-time champion Roger Federer recovered from a two-set deficit to win his U.S. Open men’s quarterfinal match tonight against Gael Monfils.
Federer, 33, the second seed from Switzerland, won 4-6, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5, 6-2 after saving two match points on his own serve in the 10th game of the fourth set.
Monfils, 28, the 20th seed from France who was seeking his first Grand Slam semifinal spot since the 2008 French Open, rolled his right ankle while running for a shot early in the second set but did not take a medical timeout.
Federer will play No. 14 Marin Cilic of Croatia in the semifinals. Cilic ousted No. 6 Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic in straight sets earlier today.
