No. 4 Seed David Ferrer Is Beaten by Gilles Simon at U.S. Open

No. 26 seed Gilles Simon of France beat fourth-seeded David Ferrer of Spain in four sets to advance to the fourth round of the U.S. Open.

Playing in hot, humid conditions at the National Tennis Center in New York, Simon won 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 in a match that took 2 hours, 48 minutes to complete.

Simon, 29, had his best finish at the U.S. Open in 2011, also reaching the fourth round.
