Bayern to Face Manchester City in Champions League Group Stage

Five-time European title holder Bayern Munich plays Premier League winner Manchester City in the group stage of the Champions League, the region’s biggest club soccer tournament.

Bayern, the 2013 winner, and City, which reclaimed the English title last season, head the competition’s Group E, which also includes Roma and CSKA Moscow.

Defending champion Real Madrid faces Basel, five-time winner Liverpool and Bulgaria’s Ludogorets in Group B while last year’s runner up, Atletico Madrid, is up against Juventus, Olympiacos of Greece and Sweden’s Malmo in Group A.

Real Madrid rallied to beat Atletico 4-1 to win Europe’s elite soccer club competition a record 10th time.

In Group F, four-time champion Barcelona will take on Paris St. Germain, the Netherlands’ Ajax and Apoel of Cyprus.

The groups were determined by a draw today in Monaco. Group play runs from Sept. 16 to Dec. 10 with the top two teams in each advancing to the round of 16. The final is June 6 in Berlin.
