The King of Auto Recalls Isn't GM—It's Toyotaby
General Motors has spent much of 2014 in recall mode, some 14 million vehicles in all ranging from the Chevy Malibus to the Cadillac Escalades. Yet the king of product call backs over the last five years isn’t GM—but its Japanese arch-rival, Toyota Motor.
In the following charts, you can see the details of recalls by manufacturer and by year. Toyota still leads the pack in the overall number of vehicles affected by recalls going back to 2010. Manufacturers like Jaguar (Tata Motors) and Porsche (Volkswagen) make fewer cars in general, so their recalls in aggregate terms can’t possibly match those of the bigger brands.
This interactive chart allows you to compare each brand over the past five years. Click a manufacturer to examine its recall history; select multiple companies to compare them.
