Romanee-Conti ’99 Leads Acker Wine Sale With Clos VougeotGuy Collins
A half-case of Romanee-Conti 1999 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti wine from Burgundy’s Cote de Nuits region led a sale in Hong Kong along with Chateau de la Tour Clos Vougeot dating back to 1885.
The six bottles of Romanee-Conti sold for HK$691,600 ($89,000), making it the top lot in the two-day Acker Merrall & Condit auction ended May 31, according to e-mailed results. The Chateau de la Tour lot of seven bottles and one magnum dating from 1885 to 1945 fetched HK$592,800. It includes dinner with chateau owner Francois Labet, and sold above the high estimate.
The auction came as collectors sought older vintages from regions such as Burgundy and California following a muted sales campaign for Bordeaux 2013 wines released in April. The Liv-ex 50 Index of top Bordeaux has fallen for nine straight months.
“Domaine de la Romanee-Conti dominated the top 25 lots sold over the weekend,” Acker said in a statement. “The breadth of demand among collectors for Burgundy was again apparent.”
Two DRC assortment cases from 1999 were also among the top lots, one selling for HK$321,100 and the other for HK$296,400, while a case of Clos Vougeot 1945 sold for HK$177,840 and 10 bottles of Chateau Lafleur 1982 fetched HK$222,300.
