China to Speed Up Water-Conservation Project Works, Xinhua Says

China, suffering from water shortages in central and western regions, will speed up the construction of water-conservation projects to improve supplies, attract investment and help agriculture, Xinhua said.

An executive meeting of the State Council chaired by Premier Li Keqiang decided today that 172 water-conservation projects will be started before 2020 to expand irrigated areas and boost supplies by 80 billion cubic meters a year, the state-run news agency said.
