NBA Los Angeles Lakers Coach Mike D’Antoni Resigns, Team Says

Mike D’Antoni resigned as coach of the National Basketball Association’s Los Angeles Lakers, team General Manager Mitch Kupchak said tonight.

D’Antoni, 62, who was hired in November 2012, had a 67-87 record with the Lakers, who failed to reach the playoffs this season. He previously was head coach of the New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns and Denver Nuggets, and has a career record of 455-426.

“Given the circumstances, I don’t know that anybody could have done a better job than Mike did the past two seasons,” Kupchak said in a statement posted on the Lakers’ website.
