UBS Hires HSBC’s Barter as Co-Head, U.K. Investment Bank

UBS AG, Switzerland’s largest bank, is hiring HSBC Holdings Plc’s William Barter as co-head of its U.K. and Ireland corporate client solutions unit.

He will jointly run the division, which excludes trading businesses, with David James, UBS said in a memo to staff obtained by Bloomberg and confirmed by a spokesman in London. HSBC said in a memo this week that Barter is leaving the bank after a year as co-head of U.K. banking within its securities unit, and named Natalie Blyth and Alan Thomas as co-heads to replace him.
