Blackstone Finishes Germany’s Biggest Offshore Wind FarmStefan Nicola
Blackstone Group LP said it finished building its 1.2 billion-euro ($1.7 billion) wind farm in the German North Sea.
WindMW GmbH, a joint company of Blackstone and Windland Energieerzeugungs GmbH, installed the last of 80 wind turbines of the 288-megawatt Meerwind Sued I Ost project near Helgoland yesterday, the developer said today in an e-mailed statement.
Grid operator TenneT TSO GmbH promised the plant can be connected to the land-based electric network and start operating this year, Brigita Jeroncic, a spokeswoman for WindMW, said by phone.
Meerwind will be one of Germany’s largest offshore wind-energy plants, capable of supplying 360,000 homes. The project in 2011 was financed by Banco Santander SA of Spain, Lloyds Banking Group Plc and Denmark’s export credit agency EKF, with KfW Group and Commerzbank AG included in the total of nine lenders.
