The New York Knicks moved into a virtual tie with the Atlanta Hawks for the eighth and final playoff spot in the National Basketball Association’s Eastern Conference last night by defeating the Brooklyn Nets.
J.R. Smith had 24 points and Carmelo Anthony added 23 points and 10 rebounds as the Knicks won 110-81 against the visiting Nets, who already have clinched a playoff spot. That win, coupled with the Hawks’ 105-92 loss at home to the Chicago Bulls, pulled New York into the virtual tie.
The Knicks, who have won three straight, are 33-43 with six games left to play in the regular season. Atlanta, which has lost seven of its last eight games, is 32-42 with eight games remaining.
