General Electric Co. has developed a new wind turbine designed specifically for Japan to weather wind conditions unique to the country.
Anne McEntee, chief executive officer of renewable energy at GE Power & Water, will announce details of the development at a Tokyo conference tomorrow, Sumito Koike, a spokesman for GE Japan Corp. said by phone today.
Koike confirmed an earlier report in the Nikkei newspaper that said the new product will be a 2.85-megawatt turbine for the Japanese market. GE will also unveil its strategy for Japan at the same time, Koike said.
Japan began an incentive program for clean energy in July 2012 which saw its solar market booming, while the wind market is lagging in terms of installations.
