Facebook Could Help Halt ‘Neknominate,’ Irish Minister Says

Facebook Inc. could help arrest the spread of a drinking game known as Neknominate by removing pages linked to the practice, Irish Communications Minister Pat Rabbitte said.

Two recent deaths in Ireland may have been linked to the game which involves drinking, or necking, a pint of alcohol, in one gulp, newspapers including the Irish Independent reported. Nominations for the dare are frequently made through Facebook.

“The first responsibility is with the young people who are falling for a stupid ruse,” Rabbitte said, Dublin-based RTE reported on its website today, calling it a “stupid and silly phenomenon.”

A spokeswoman for the company couldn’t immediately comment.
