England Cricket Coach Fired Following Ashes Rout, Telegraph SaysBen Priechenfried
England’s cricket coach Andy Flower is being fired following the team’s 5-0 Ashes series loss to Australia, the Daily Telegraph reported.
Flower, 45, was called into a meeting at Lord’s yesterday and told of the decision by Paul Downton, the England and Wales Cricket Board’s managing director, the newspaper said.
A former international player for Zimbabwe, Flower was appointed in 2009 and guided the team to three consecutive Ashes series wins before the recent rout in Australia. He also oversaw England’s rise to No. 1 in the Test rankings in 2011. England is now ranked fourth, behind South Africa, India and Australia.
An official announcement will be made later today, the Telegraph added.
The cricket board didn’t immediately reply to an e-mail seeking comment on the Telegraph report.
