Browns Hire Mike Pettine as Third NFL Head Coach in Three Years

The Cleveland Browns hired Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine as head coach, filling the last of the National Football League’s seven vacancies.

Pettine, 47, becomes the Browns’ third coach in three years, joining the team more than three weeks after Rob Chudzinski was fired following one season in Cleveland.

Pettine was also the New York Jets’ defensive coordinator from 2009 through 2012.

The Browns had a 4-12 record during the 2013 season, the sixth straight year they’ve had five wins or fewer, and haven’t won a playoff game since after the 1994 season.

The Washington Redskins, Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans also hired new head coaches this offseason.
