Nederlander Sued by U.S. Over Disability Access Violations

Architectural barriers prevent or restrict access to Nederlander Organization’s theaters in New York to people with disabilities, including a lack of wheelchair seating locations, according to a complaint filed by the office of Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara. * Some theaters don’t have the required number of seats without armrests to allow for suitable transfer from a wheelchair, according to the complaint * Barriers exist at the restrooms and lounge areas, the U.S. claimed * Nederlander continues to provide seating that is unequal to those provided to individuals without disabilities, the U.S. claims * U.S. seeks “reasonable modifications” to improve the facilities for those with disabilities under federal laws and Americans with Disabilities Act regulations
